The European Grooming Association -non profit making-, targeted on promoting and developing the grooming profession, was born from an Umberto Lehmann's idea shared with Mijo Klein, his friend and very known and appreciated French groomer, during a grooming contest in 2001.
More and more contests are held, people can meet and compare different schools, but most of all competitions are a stimulus to improve one's capacities and the best way to achieve success in professional activity.
Each Country can count at least one National Association trying to obtain the official recognition of our profession, organizing formation courses and specific seminars and contests to estimate acquired levels as well.
Nowadays in Europe they are trying to equalize every different Country's activities following a common standard, and we too should work on that way.
Umberto and Mijo let the groomers that usually attend contests all over the world, people that got great success representing their Country or their own National Association, but first of all friends, enthusiastic about their work and longing for constituting something active and functional, know those thoughts.
On the 6 of April 2002 twenty-two, at the same time candidates and voters, they voted to compose the Board: a President, a Vice President, and six Councillors.
First aims of the European Grooming Association were the organization of the European Individual Championship and of the World Team Championship as well.
The first "European Individual Championship" was held on the occasion of "MilanGroom" on April 2003, 26 and 27 in Verbania (Italy).
Our first World Team Championship held in Barcelona in 2003 had 7 Teams competing; in 2017 (the last but not least we organized) we had the pleasure to welcome 20 Teams.
We are proud to verify that the number of the Teams entering the Show grew at every edition.
Lately we have been so glad to welcome several Teams from South America and Asia. We are sure that more teams will join us in the future.

CONFLICT OF INTEREST21/11/2024
CONFLICT OF INTEREST
Recently we have registered that several of our Judges are owner of brands that sponsor numerous competitors. Other have even given rise to "teams" that represent them.
A conflict of interest inevitably arises when these judges are invited to judge competitions in which groomers sponsored by them participate.
Since our rules require three judges for each class of competition, initially, to overcome the conflict of interest, it was thought to exempt the judge from judging the competitor linked to his own brand by letting the President of the Jury take his place alongside the other two judges. Now the numbers have grown, there are many competitors belonging to several brands, such as to make the President's intervention to complete the Jury absurd.
Those judges must agree to judge only contests in which there are no competitors sponsored by them.

Poodle Class02/08/2024
In order to give all poodles the same opportunity despite of their sizes, it was decided to separate the class in “Mini Dwarf and Toys” and “Standards”. That way we will have two Poodle classes. Each class should still have no less than five competitors
